Marketing Free Website Designs !

Using free webhosting

If you have a new business that you are starting up and want to find the most cost effective way of making your own website, then you should consider free webhosting. This is not as daunting as many people make it out to be and if you find the most appropriate free web sites, you can easily set your website up yourself and start making an impression in your line of work.

Using free webhosting is very simple and best of all, it is free. You will simply need to sign up and viola; you will have your very own website. You can register your own domain at .com or .net, but if you want free domains then you can try one of the new ones at co.cc or .name domains. All you will have to do then is forward the URL to your new domain and instead of having something like companyname.hosting1234.com, you will have companyname.co.cc which looks more professional.

What is free webhosting?

Free webhosting is controversial and it basically means that you get free web sites when you sign up with them and you will receive a sub domain of their site as your URL. But many people question if these web hosts are really free and how reliable they are. For more details go to  www.impacts-audio.com There are lots free webhosting sites around nowadays and they work by not asking you pay to set up your website. The only ways they cost you are in time, with certain hosting restrictions, or by adding unwanted banners and pop up ads to your site, which is not great if you want a professional website. Sometimes you will also find companies that claim to offer free webhosting, but they will charge you for registering your domain or some other fees.

Setting up a free website, however, is possible if you find the right company, but you may be wondering how they make money then. Well, they do this with advertising and generally you will get a free site, but it will have ads all over it. Some companies you will find don’t put any sort of advertising or banners on your site, but they might ask you to click on some ads during your sign up process and some may even sell your email address to 3rd parties. Some of the web hosting services will also require that to receive your free web site you need to sign in to their forum pages each week and write a post for them. This is why it is very important to read your terms of service and all the fine print there is before using free webhosting services.

With free webhosting there also comes some reliability issues and most of the free webhosts you find are not reliable. This all depend on their sign up policies and if they are too liberal and just take anyone and don’t use email notification processes and the like, you might find that people start to abuse the servers with hacking and spam. This will make your free web site either unusable, or susceptible to hackers, and it also causes a lot of downtime which is not very professional. There are plenty of resources for finding free hosts and for setting up a free web site. These will have reliable reviews from members and there will be a ranking system so you can see the best free webhosting services to choose. This web directory will offer you links to all the free webhosting sites and also details the features and functions so you have a much easier time selecting the best company for setting up a free website.

It is best to keep checking back with the active directories each day, because sometimes these free webhosts will fold after just a day, if they are not good enough. For more details go to www.handy-color-schemer.com When you choose a webhosting company, it is best to look for ones that offer paid hosting as well, and ones that have good terms of service agreements.

If you are just getting started as a freelancer you need direct clients that are willing to help you get underway. I’ve been there, done that. Now I have employees and hundreds of clients. So looking back, this is how I would advise you get some exposure.

    1. A basic web site that highlights the independent nature of who you are. Many clients are looking for a goto person to do updates and help them out of bad situations. This approach is usually a great way in the door. As you build a portfolio of jobs, be sure to add them to your experience and testimonials on your site.

    2. Referrals. Previous clients, friends, family – these are great places to start to look for work. Don’t abuse the relationship, but take the opportunity to ask around. Again, focus on your strength – small and agile. As your business grows, so will your projects. Referrals are by far my highest source of leads.

    3. Interagency opportunities. Call other web design shops and make an appointment to introduce yourself. Emails don’t work as well here – just say you are going to be in the neighborhood and wanted to drop in. Most design shops like mine are always looking for reliable local contractors. Again, this is a building process. You will be hiring your own contractors one day as you grow.

    4. I would recommend advertising at least with Craig’s List and other such freebie spots. Also use local classifieds off-line. The trick here is regular exposure. This is a way to keep expenses low yet increase your market exposure.

    5. Call the chamber of commerce in your area. They are a great resource. If you join, you can just let folks know that you are an independent web designer and are happy to take on small jobs. This approach leads to larger jobs.

    6. I do highly recommend a nice business card and a nice brochure/rack card. Put your design skills to the test. I’ve always had a good quality business card, but I waited on the rack card and I think I missed out on some marketplace building.

    7. In your particular business, I can highly recommend pay-per-click advertising with Google and Yahoo. We garner a lot of our new leads through this advertising. It can be expensive so you have to have a good budget to get started, but it does work particularly well for web design shops.

    8. I suggest you AVOID places like eLance and eBay and other "chop shop" approaches to web design. Its dog-eat-dog and you are usually up against a bunch of eastern Europeans. Its even tough to use this crowd as an outsource contractor from the buying end. We stopped using their services years ago.

    9. I suggest you AVOID whale hunting. BIG HUGE LESSON here. It can kill your business if you are not careful. When you are getting started, I recommend targeting a goal of 10-20 active clients and keep the size of the client inline with the business model. Taking on a very large client as a one-person shop can strangle your business. You more or less just become an offsite employee at a much reduced rate.

    10. Finally, I do suggest targeting the small business client and keeping your pricing tailored to small business. I am biased here because this is my chosen target, however, there are lots of design shops out there addressing the large companies. There are WAY more small businesses than large ones and there are too few designers willing to take on small clients. This screams niche and we are succeeding in it.

    11. Bonus – the major thing you have on your side is time. Once you get a client, kill yourself to be responsive. You must put client response at the top of any task list. This is, in my experience, the ONLY way to grow a client list.

    12. Veteran Tip – If you focus on small business, avoid "virtual" businesses as you are getting started. Try to find clients that are as stable as you would like to be. As a web designer, your stability directly relates to the stability of your base. "Virtual" businesses can sap resources quickly. We have a brick-and-mortar rule of thumb. Professional and consumer services are also a good target. We prefer clients well-rooted in the local community as it helps us to be the same.
