Here are steps to successfully stand out with your web-site!.

STAND OUT:

1) You want your web-site to stand out. You want yahoo.com or google.com and “notmykeyword.com”. Recognition of your company brand is very important.

2) Design: Keep your site design simple. You do not need any flashy things moving around. Make sure you have more text on your pages that any “http” tags. Do not use any free counters or anything to clutter your website. Keep it professional.

3) Build content or information/articles about your business. Typically this will be around 200-500 word articles. Write one article per day. If you do not know what to write about, use http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

4) Use keyword once in your “Title>, as well in your article. Keep the density of your keywords between 10-20%. More about it below.

5) Link across your web-site, not out to different sites (unless you are referring to a certain web-site). If your articles talks about housing market, link to a housing market page within your web-site. Do not create one page that will outperform the rest. You want 1 page that brings 50+ visitors. As an example I can use is wikipedia. You almost never leave their site; there is always a link within the page.

Development of your pages: These can be found using your Internet Explorer by clicking “view” and “source”. If your site is build by third party you can see if they have included below:

TITLE: Very important factor that relates to your pages/website. Title is displayed in search engines where user can click on your title. The format for title is Your Title

DESCRIPTION: Description describes page content. It informs search engine about this page and in some case description is displayed right under title in search engines. The format for description is

KEYWORDS: A list of keywords that describe your web-page. The format for keywords is:

H Tags: This is a good way to inform search engines about what is this particular page about. H tags specify the web page headings. For example Housing Bubble

This tag informs that this page is about housing bubble, therefore search engine begins to spider your site for keyword “housing bubble”. Again use between 10%-20% density of your keywords in you article in comparison to your text. Simply, do not write everywhere “housing bubble” if “housing” will make sense as well in your writing.

ANCHOR TEXT: When you are adding your site to search engines you can use Anchor Text by providing search engine with a desirable description. For example let’s say that your website is “EXAMPLE.com”. When adding site to a directory, many people would simply enter their company name “EXAMPLE”. But let’s look at our ‘housing bubble”, it would be beneficial if you add “Housing Bubble News” as your article is about housing bubble.

Search engines would also want you to enter description. You can use the same description as your page has or you can create a description that describes your web-page.

LINK BUILDING:

There are few ways to identify link building.

1) Direct Link: This is where a site links to you. It can be that someone found your article interesting and requested permission to use it with your linking information.

2) Reciprocal Link: Two web-sites exchange links. You may have already received a numerous link exchange request. Pay attention what web-site is requesting this exchange. Is this web-site in real estate market? Do they have good information about what they offer? Do not link to any site that is not real estate related. Put it this way…would you post article about housing bubble and than link to article about food?

3) Three way reciprocal links: Each time you get a request to exchange links with some site, always ask where your link will be placed. Many webmaster use site A, but they will post your link from site B. This is done, or believed to be done so search engines will not detect that you are exchanging links every day. This is myth and not even confirmed. I personally do not think it actually matters.

Why would you want to exchange links? The more links are pointing to your site, the better. Not only search engines will find you quicker, but you will start to build up link popularity. Google, for instance uses Page Rank tool to determine your link popularity

Page Rank is only used by Google. If you are linking form site A to site B, this is to google a vote. However it does not only pass the link but also a page rank value from the other site. Best method is to get links form high PR (page rank ) websites.

To see your page rank, download google toolbar.
